Saw this on the Visit Bend site and thought it sounded like a really fun activity. Here are the details:
1/20/2008 7:00 PM
Where: Cascades
When: January 20th, 7-11pm
Cost: $75 per person
Small groups snowshoe a short way with a Wanderlust Tours guide to a quiet spot in the snowy forest to bask at a glowing “bonfire” in the middle of an amphitheater hand carved into the snow. Local naturalist guides share fun facts about the forest, its animal life and the night sky while snowshoers relax around the fire enjoying locally baked desserts and various hot drinks. Includes all transportation, snowshoes, snowshoe instruction, food/drinks and professional naturalist guides. Kids 8 years and older welcome.

Read this over at Yahoo! Finance last week and thought I’d share. It has some really good points:
1. Negotiate, negotiate.
2. Think local.
3. Don’t bank on further market drops.
4. Keep resale potential in mind.
5. Look beyond cosmetics.
6. Consider off-peak sales seasons.
7. Use your buying leverage.
8. Ask for contingencies.
I think the third strategy is particularly important. If you’re a homebuyer and you keep on waiting and waiting for housing price to keep dropping and dropping… you don’t want to wait until they start going up. And who knows when that will happen? So if you can negotiate the price of a house low enough to fit your budget, you should jump on it instead of taking a gamble and waiting for the price to drop even more.

Read this over at The Bulletin online:
“More airlines, more flights and bigger planes made 2007 the busiest on record for Redmond Airport. …”Airport Manager Carrie Novick attributed the year’s growth to the addition of Allegiant Air’s service to Las Vegas, a third Delta Connection flight to Salt Lake City and the seasonal addition of United Express’ weekly flight to Denver over the summer.”
Good news for the local Redmond airport! Glad to hear about the expansion plans as well…

My wife and I had both been ski bums in Sun Valley, Idaho and we had a goal to get back to an area with a similar life style. We had moved to Portland from Eugene after finishing studies at the University of Oregon. We promised ourselves that we would move to Bend within five years of our move to Portland. Life got going, secure job, my wife had a successful speech therapy business, purchased a home, went to graduate school, had our first boy - roots were being set. In year 6 of Portland we realized that unless we started seriously looking into a move to Bend it would never happen. There are a number of reasons that convinced my wife and I to move our family to Central Oregon a little over five years ago. We lived in Southeast Portland and thoroughly enjoyed it. However, the attraction of Central Oregon was too hard to resist. There were five major reasons we took the risk to pick up the stakes and head “east”:
