How to make an offer to get the new home you want

Published by George Hale at 10:32 am under Woodhill Homes

As I have said before, right now is the best time to buy a new home, especially in Central Oregon. Buyers have more negotiating power now, and with house prices softened the ball is now squarely in the buyer’s court.

So what should you offer?

Well first, decide what it is that you really want. Is it the house itself, negotiating a great deal, lots of upgrades thrown in at the right price, a certain payment? After you have decided on the goals, then craft the offer.

Builders are much more inclined to give $20,000 worth of upgrades than a price reduction.

If it is a payment you are after, consider asking the builder to buy down your rate. But remember, if you intend on living in the house for longer than a year, your family needs to feel like it is a a place where you can create memories and raise your family. That is truly the greatest part of homeownership - a sense of well-being for the whole family.
