As evidenced daily in all outlets of media, we are at a 10-15 year high in houses for sale, depending on data resource. If you look closer at the numbers though, the percentage of new homes versus resale is getting lower. Most of the new homes on the market today were built during the waning years of the real estate boom. New homes just aren’t being built as the market works through the available inventory.

During the “good times,” builders worked hard to differentiate their homes and communities by offering exceptional amenities and features. The saying of “other builders upgrades are our standards” could be heard from builders in all markets. As the supply of the “upgraded” homes is purchased, homes with these great features will be gone. Builders are making changes to compete in today’s market. The quality of new homes will not change but the level of finishes will. It is the best way for builders to keep pricing low.

So, if you are looking for a new home today, why wait? Sure, there’s rumbling that home prices may drop, but so will the upgrades. If you buy today, your dollars will buy more for the money because the features and added value are already built-in. So, take a look for yourself. The deals are great and you can still get those special details you are wanting whether its hardwood floors, a luxury master suite, or even solar panels. With built-in upgrades, buy today while you can enjoy them for years to come.
