Natural Disinfectants You Probably Already Have at Home

White Vinegar

 

White vinegar is a household mainstay, and for good reason. It's great as a deodorizer, fabric softener, and sanitizer. White vinegar is effective at killing many food-borne bacteria including E. coli. It's also great at cutting through mildew. Mix up a spray bottle with half water and half vinegar and you will have a versatile disinfecting solution that can be used almost anywhere in your home.

 

Lemons

 

Similar to white vinegar, another high acidic household item you can use to disinfect are lemons. Next time you have an overabundance of lemons, slice one open and wipe it over surfaces like sinks and faucets to take advantage of the antimicrobial properties and lovely smell.

 

Isopropyl Alcohol

 

If you have a first aid kit, then you likely have a bottle of isopropyl alcohol in your home. Don’t let it just collect dust in between tending to injuries. Break it out every once in a while to effectively disinfect surfaces in your home. Or, you can even make your own hand sanitizer with it by mixing isopropyl alcohol with some aloe vera gel.

 

Borax

 

Many people have a box of borax in their laundry rooms, but this natural mineral powder can be used for a variety of disinfecting purposes. Mix a few tablespoons of borax with water in a spray bottle and you will have a mold and bacteria killing concoction.
