Our On-Your-Lot Building Checklist

Do you own a parcel of land or are you interested in purchasing one? At Tailored Homes, our team of experienced New Home Consultants can help you build the perfect home on your lot. Here's our comprehensive checklist to guide you through the process:

  • STEP 1 - SCHEDULE YOUR INITIAL CONSULTATION

    Contact us today to schedule an initial consultation. Fill out our Contact Form.

  • STEP 2 - TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROJECT

    During the consultation, we'll ask you some questions to get a better understanding of your project. Here are some key questions we'll cover:


    • Where is your property located (address or tax lot #)?
    • What is the status of your property ownership (own, under contract, interested in a specific parcel, or looking for land)?
    • Have you selected one of our Tailored Home plans to build? If not, we can help you find one that fits your lot and budget.
    • What is your ideal total budget for your home, land, and all other costs?
    • When do you want to move into your new home?
    • Are you pre-qualified with a construction lender or building with cash?

  • STEP 3 - PLAN YOUR HOME AND SELECT MATERIALS

    Once we have a better understanding of your project, we'll start planning your dream home. Here's what we'll do:


    • Prepare a free preliminary site assessment and feasibility budget based on due diligence results and the information you provide.
    • Visit the site with you and/or our construction team to discuss project details and complete a site assessment.
    • Provide custom quotes for any additional site development costs based on site, terrain, and engineering reports.
    • Obtain your approval of the preliminary construction budget before final material and color selections.
    • Help you make final material and color selections prior to entering into the construction agreement.

  • STEP 4 - SIGN THE CONSTRUCTION AGREEMENT

    Once we've finalized the plans and materials, we'll prepare the construction agreement for you to sign.

  • STEP 5 - SUBMIT FOR PERMITS

    We’ll submit the plans and other required documents to the local jurisdiction for permitting with the Site-Right Solution option. Otherwise, you will be responsible to submit the permit set. The timing of this step depends on the jurisdiction.

  • STEP 6 - TAILORED BEGINS CONSTRUCTION

    Once we receive the necessary permits and you have closed on your financing, we'll start construction on your home. We'll work with you throughout the process to ensure your home is built to your exact specifications.
