Top Tips to Get Your Home Ready for Spring

Trees are coming alive, flowers are blooming, and the weather is warming up. Spring is the perfect time to get things done, including home maintenance. After a winter of rain, snow, and more, it's important to give your home a little TLC. Here’s where to start.

 

Air Conditioner

 

Before the days get too warm, now is the perfect time to inspect your AC unit and make sure that it is in working order. Change the filter, check for loose connections, and if you suspect a problem call a professional to check it out.

 

Plumbing

 

Take the time to inspect your plumbing and pipes for loose connections, drips, or sweaty pipes. Check under your sinks, by your dishwasher, and in your laundry room. Tighten any connections that need it, use plumber’s tape to create strong seals when needed, and call a professional if you spot a problem you cannot fix on your own.

 

Roof

 

Winter is harsh on roofs, which is why inspecting your roof for damage is important. Look for cracked, out of place, or missing shingles. Also look for elevated shingles, which happens sometimes when nails and fasteners fail. If you notice any of these issues address them sooner rather than later.

 

Siding

 

While you are inspecting the outside of your property look closely at your siding. Warping or rot (depending on the type of home exterior you have) can be an indicator that your gutters are not working properly and you need to mend them. Bulging or missing spots are an easy place for bugs, critters, and pests to nest in. Make sure to fill or cover these areas if you find any.

 

Landscaping

 

You will also want to give attention to your landscaping. Remove any fallen branches and debris which, if left, can smother your grasses. Winter conditions also compact soil so aerate your soil to allow grass roots to breathe. If you have garden beds, prepare the soil here as well before planting flowers and produce.
